Minutes of the August 2011 meeting of the Fort Smith Area Amateur Radio Club

The Fort Smith Area Amateur Radio Club met at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Health South conference room. There were 39 people at the meeting.

 

President Royce Rainwater called the meeting to order and everyone introduced themselves. Chuck Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting as posted on the web site. The motion was seconded, voted on and passed. Treasurer Rick Deaton provided a report which included van and electricity expenses. Levi Taylor made a motion to approve the report. It was seconded, voted on and passed.

 

Club Van

Treasurer Rick Deaton reported that there has not been recent activity with the van due to record-breaking high temperatures. The van has been started occasionally and is ready for upcoming events.

 

Repeater Update

Wayne Johnson reported that it has been too hot to work on the 444.500 machine and they are patiently waiting for cooler weather.

 

Technician Class

Mike Cole reported that the technician class was very successful. He thanked

Jim Roughley, Jim Scott and Jay Bromley for their support for the class. Several people from the technician class came to the meeting tonight.There will be a CW class in the fall and details will be available soon.

 

Upcoming Hamfests & Events

The Joplin and Queen Wilhelmina hamfests were mentioned. The club received a flyer with several admission tickets to the Joplin hamfest. Jimmie Lowrey and Al Moody took them.

 

There was discussion of club members volunteering for parking detail at the Octoberfest event on October 7 and 8 at Columbus Acres in Fort Smith. Several individuals volunteered to work the event. Charles Floyd made a motion that we take the club van to the event. The motion was seconded, voted on and passed.

 

Levi Taylor will be the net control operator this Thursday and Steve Rutherford is still taking orders for shirts.

 

Mike Bell made a motion to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded, voted on and passed. The meeting was adjourned.
